Do No Harm!!!
be reflected in program practices and initiatives. I would push more critical thinking and
problem solving in the classroom. I believe that while the ultimate goal is for students to show
mastery of the subject concept, students need to learn how to solve problems and relate the
material they are learning to the present.
4. Considering my future sphere of influence, as the school leader, my beliefs regarding
professional development as a community of learners are simple. I am lucky, as my
administration team continually seeks out new opportunities for the staff to grow and reflect
upon the school and its culture. Every professional development is about bettering the school
and aiding the students. I think that continued professional developments, whether it is
updating the staff on the newest technologies or the latest ideas in education is essential.
5. The concept of teaching students to “Do No Harm” is heavily integrated into the culture of
Health Sciences High.
6. I am privileged to work at the “Best School in the Universe!” I am thankful for the leaders who
inspire me to be a better educator and only hope that I can continue to grow as an educator
and support a positive culture.
- When it comes to the concept of Do No Harm, I believe that this parallels my pledge of a Fire Fighter. I made an oath to the United States and the amazing State of California to save lives and property. I have been a fireman for ten years and have actively been there to reduce the harm others experience. When 911 is dialed and the fire department is dispatched, more often than not, I am responding to an incident in which someone is having a terrible day. To me this is restorative and I try to apply the same concepts to my classroom. That being said, to me “Do No Harm” means a lot. For instance, the first concept behind do no harm is to make sure that you don't harm or hurt anyone physically or emotionally. Furthermore, I think that it includes “Do No Harm” to yourself. Make sure that you live a healthy and active lifestyle, promoting both physical and mental activity.
- As a future leader, considering my future sphere of influence, my beliefs reflected in discipline policies and practices would relate to the idea of community and culture. In my opinion and based upon my readings, I think that establishing a school culture/community where all students are excepted is one of the most important concepts. The community/culture built within the school will be the backbone that supports and encourages students to positively express themselves and to further us their personalities and talents to better the school community.
